Planning Your Perfect Outdoor Wedding Ceremony

The Importance of a Plan B for Inclement Weather

Planning an outdoor wedding can be a dream come true. There's nothing quite like saying your vows surrounded by nature, However, Mother Nature can be unpredictable, and it’s crucial to have a backup plan in place to ensure your big day goes smoothly, regardless of the weather.

On the day of Kylie and Casey’s wedding, Point Perry at Coolum provided a stunning backdrop.  We were fortunate that the rain stopped just prior to the bride’s arrival and only started again once the ceremony was complete!  Luckily, I was prepared with a beach towel to dry off the seating and have experience in dealing with projecting my voice considering the wind.  I only wish I had put my hair up in an ‘up do’ so it wasn’t covering my face in many of the photos!

No matter how perfect your chosen date may seem, weather conditions can change unexpectedly. Rain, wind, and extreme temperatures are just a few of the potential issues that can arise. A well-thought-out Plan B ensures that these weather changes won’t dampen your spirits or your guests’ experience.  The bride and groom selected a venue close by (Coolum Surf Club) for their reception and had the rain not eased for us, we could’ve easily moved our ceremony indoors. When selecting a venue, consider one that offers both beautiful outdoor spaces and suitable indoor facilities. This way, you can easily move your ceremony indoors if necessary. Many venues have elegant indoor spaces that can be just as stunning as their outdoor counterparts.

Your guests’ comfort is paramount. Inclement weather can make an outdoor wedding uncomfortable or even unsafe. Having an alternative plan ensures that your guests will remain comfortable and can fully enjoy your special day. If you’re set on an outdoor ceremony, consider renting a tent or marquee. These can provide shelter from rain or harsh sun while still allowing you to enjoy the outdoor setting. Keep your guests in the loop by including information about your Plan B on your wedding website or invitations. This ensures they come prepared, whether that means bringing an umbrella or wearing appropriate footwear/clothing.

From decorations to sound equipment, many elements of a wedding ceremony are vulnerable to weather damage. A Plan B helps protect these investments, ensuring everything from your flowers to your PA system stays in pristine condition.  Being prepared with an emergency kit with items like umbrellas, blankets, towels, and extra mats is incredibly helpful for last-minute adjustments and keeping everyone dry and comfortable.

While no one hopes for rain on their wedding day, and we appreciate that a cloudy sky is great for photos - being prepared with a solid Plan B ensures that we can embrace whatever weather comes your way. The key is flexibility and preparation. By thinking ahead and making thoughtful arrangements, we can ensure that your wedding day is magical and memorable, come rain or shine.

Remember, the most important part of your wedding day is the love you are celebrating. With a little planning and a positive attitude, your day will be perfect, no matter what the weather has in store.
